Biografie
Mark Anthony „Baz“ Luhrmann ist ein australischer Filmemacher und Schauspieler, dessen Projekte Film, Fernsehen, Oper, Theater, Musik und Musikproduktion umfassen. Aufgrund seines Stils und seines tiefgreifenden Engagements in Drehbuch, Regie, Design und Musik seiner Werke gilt er manchen als Beispiel eines zeitgenössischen Auteurs. Er ist der kommerziell erfolgreichste australische Regisseur; vier seiner Filme zählen zu den zehn umsatzstärksten australischen Filmen weltweit. Auf der Leinwand ist er vor allem für seine „Red Curtain Trilogy“ bekannt, bestehend aus der romantischen Komödie „Strictly Ballroom“ (1992) und den Tragödien „William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet“ (1996) und „Moulin Rouge!“ (2001). Nach der Trilogie folgten Projekte wie „Australia“ (2008), „Der große Gatsby“ (2013), „Elvis“ (2022) und das historische Fernsehdrama „The Get Down“ (2016) für Netflix. Zu weiteren Projekten gehören Bühnenproduktionen von Giacomo Puccinis La Bohème für die Australian Opera und den Broadway sowie Strictly Ballroom the Musical (2014).
