Biografie
Pedro Almodóvar Caballero ist ein spanischer Filmregisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent. Almodóvar gilt als der erfolgreichste und international bekannteste spanische Filmemacher seiner Generation. Seine Filme, geprägt von komplexen Erzählstrukturen, bedienen sich der Stilmittel des Melodramas und verwenden Elemente der Popkultur, populäre Lieder, respektlosen Humor, kräftige Farben, opulente Ausstattung und LGBT-Themen. Begierde, Leidenschaft, Familie und Identität zählen zu Almodóvars zentralen Themen. Seine Filme erfreuen sich weltweiter Beliebtheit, und er hat sich zu einer Schlüsselfigur des internationalen Kinos entwickelt. Gemeinsam mit seinem jüngeren Bruder Agustín Almodóvar, der fast alle Filme von Pedro produziert hat, gründete er die spanische Filmproduktionsfirma El Deseo S.A. Im Jahr 2001 wurde er zum ausländischen Ehrenmitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences gewählt.
