Biografie
Clinton „Clint“ Eastwood, Jr. ist ein US-amerikanischer Filmschauspieler, Regisseur, Produzent, Komponist und Politiker. Nach seiner bahnbrechenden Rolle in der Fernsehserie Tausend Meilen Staub (1959-65) spielte Eastwood als Mann ohne Namen in Sergio Leones Dollar-Trilogie der Spaghetti-Western (Für eine Handvoll Dollar, Für ein paar Dollar mehr und Zwei glorreiche Halunken) in den 1960er Jahren und als Inspektor Harry Callahan in den Dirty Harry-Filmen (Dirty Harry, Calahan, Der Unerbittliche, Dirty Harry kommt zurück und Das Todesspiel) in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren. Diese Rollen, zusammen mit mehreren anderen, in denen er zähe, sachliche Polizisten spielt, haben ihn zu einer dauerhaften kulturellen Ikone der Männlichkeit gemacht. Eastwood gewann die Oscars als bester Regisseur und Produzent des besten Films und erhielt Nominierungen für den besten Schauspieler für seine Arbeit in den Filmen Unforgiven (1992) und Million Dollar Baby (2004). Insbesondere diese Filme, wie auch andere, wie Sadistico (1971), Der Texaner (1976), Pale Rider (1985), In the Line of Fire (1993), Die Brücken am Fluß (1995) und Gran Torino (2008), haben alle kommerziellen Erfolg und/oder kritische Anerkennung erhalten. Eastwoods einzige Komödien waren Der Mann aus San Fernando (1978) und dessen Fortsetzung Mit Vollgas nach San Fernando (1980). Eastwood hat die meisten seiner eigenen Starvehikel inszeniert, aber auch Filme gedreht, in denen er nicht auftrat, wie Mystic River (2003) und Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), für die er Oscar-Nominierungen erhielt, und Der fremde Sohn (2008), der mit dem Golden Globe Award nominiert wurde. Seit 1967 betreibt Eastwood seine eigene Produktionsfirma, Malpaso, die die überwiegende Mehrheit seiner Filme produziert hat. Von 1986 bis 1988 war er auch parteiloser Bürgermeister von Carmel-by-the-Sea, Kalifornien. Eastwood hat sieben Kinder von fünf Frauen, obwohl er nur zweimal geheiratet hat. Der audiophile Eastwood ist auch mit dem Jazz verbunden und hat zusammen mit seinem ältesten Sohn Kyle Eastwood Stücke komponiert und in mehreren Filmen aufgeführt.
