Biographie
Peter MacDonald est un réalisateur, producteur de cinéma, cadreur et directeur de la photographie britannique, né le 20 juin 1939 à Londres. Peter MacDonald commence par travailler comme apprenti dans le service caméra d'un studio où il apprend tout sur le métier. En 1968 il est engagé comme assistant caméra sur Un amant dans le grenier de Joseph McGrath. Il commence alors à enchaîner les films et travaille sur Le crime de l'Orient-Express (1974) de Sidney Lumet, Zardoz (1974) de John Boorman, Le retour de la panthère rose (1974) de Blake Edwards, Superman (1978) de Richard Donner, L'empire contre-attaque (1980) de Irvin Keshner... Parallélement, il devient réalisateur de seconde équipe sur Excalibur (1981) de John Boorman, Le dragon du lac de feu (1981) de Matthew Robbins, Cry freedom (1987) de Richard Attenborough ; Tango & Cash (1989) de Andrei Konchalovsky, Batman & Robin (1997) de Joel Schumasher. En 1987, John Milius le choisit comme chef opérateur de Hamburger Hill et c'est en 1988 qu'il tourne son premier film : Rambo III. Réalisateur de commande, il met en scène la comédie Mo'money (1992), le conte pour enfants L'histoire sans fin III (1994) et le film de guerre Legionnaire (1998) avec Jean-Claude Van Damme. Sans être un grand réalisateur, Peter MacDonald s'impose comme un artisan avec un savoir faire évident.
