Biografie
Quincy Delight Jones Jr. war ein US-amerikanischer Musikproduzent, Komponist, Arrangeur, Dirigent, Trompeter und Bandleader. In seiner sieben Jahrzehnte umspannenden Karriere erhielt er zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter 28 Grammy Awards, einen Primetime Emmy Award und einen Tony Award sowie Nominierungen für sieben Oscars und vier Golden Globe Awards. Jones erlangte in den 1950er-Jahren als Jazz-Arrangeur und -Dirigent Bekanntheit, bevor er Anfang der 1960er-Jahre Pop-Hits für Lesley Gore produzierte und als Arrangeur und Dirigent an mehreren Kollaborationen zwischen Frank Sinatra und dem Jazzmusiker Count Basie mitwirkte. Jones produzierte drei der erfolgreichsten Alben von Michael Jackson: „Off the Wall“ (1979), „Thriller“ (1982) und „Bad“ (1987). 1985 produzierte und dirigierte Jones den Benefizsong „We Are the World“. Jones komponierte zahlreiche Filmmusiken, unter anderem für „Der Pfandleiher“ (1965), „In der Hitze der Nacht“ (1967), „Kaltblütig“ (1967), „Charlie staubt Millionen ab“ (1969), „The Wiz - Das Zauberhafte Land“ (1978) und „Die Farbe Lila“ (1985). Für die Miniserie „Roots“ (1977) wurde er mit dem Primetime Emmy Award für die beste Musikkomposition einer Serie ausgezeichnet. Als Produzent der Wiederaufführung von „Die Farbe Lila“ (2016) erhielt er den Tony Award für das beste Musical-Revival.
