Biografie

**V. Harikrishna** (born 5 November 1974) is a prominent Indian music composer, playback singer, film producer, and director who works predominantly in Kannada cinema. Widely celebrated as one of the most prolific and commercially successful music directors of modern Sandalwood, he dominated the Kannada music charts throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, earning the industry epithet of the "hit machine." Born and raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Harikrishna grew up in a musically inclined family. He began his musical training at an early age, learning the keyboard and harmonium, and performed with various regional orchestra troupes across the state. In the early 1990s, he entered the film industry as an assistant and programmer, spending over a decade working closely under veteran music directors such as Hamsalekha, V. Manohar, Gurukiran, and Sadhu Kokila. He made his independent debut as a composer with the 2006 romantic action film *Jothe Jotheyali*, produced by actor Darshan's banner. The soundtrack became an instant commercial sensation, kicking off a long-standing and immensely successful creative partnership with Darshan. Following this breakthrough, he delivered back-to-back musical blockbusters across diverse genres, quickly cementing his place as the industry's premier commercial composer. Over a career spanning more than a hundred feature films, Harikrishna has scored some of Sandalwood's most enduring hits, including *Gaalipata* (2008), *Payana* (2008), *Maleyali Jotheyali* (2009), *Raaj the Showman* (2009), *Jackie* (2010), *Super* (2010), *Sarathi* (2011), *Paramathma* (2011), *Drama* (2012), *Addhuri* (2012), *Bulbul* (2013), *Gajakesari* (2014), *Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari* (2014), *Masterpiece* (2015), *Raajakumara* (2017), and *Yajamana* (2019). His musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades, including multiple Filmfare Awards South and Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Music Direction. In addition to composing and lending his vocals to hit tracks, Harikrishna expanded his creative scope into production and direction. He founded the music label D-Beats alongside Media House Studio, fostering soundtrack distribution for Kannada cinema. He made his directorial debut with the blockbuster commercial drama *Yajamana* (2019), which he co-directed with Pon Kumaran, followed by helming the high-voltage action entertainer *Kranti* (2023). Married to playback singer Vani Harikrishna, he remains one of the most influential creative figures in contemporary Kannada cinema.
